Description
This is an abstract or semi abstract black and white image, depending on your perspective, that was created through using my original semi abstract artwork I did of Sydney harbour at night. This is a black and white abstract view of the harbour in Sydney at night as seen from the Manly Ferry. I love the harbour lights at night in Sydney when coming home from Manly after my forward trips at sunset. I find these excursions soothing, calming and uplifting and the memories stay with me such as in this artwork.
Lately I've been really enjoying Paul Simon's album called 'Gracelands' and one particular song from from this album, 'Diamonds On the Soles of Her Shoes' has been virtually popping into my head tonight as I've been creating this, so consequently has inspired the naming of this artwork. This artwork with its naming feels akin to part of my nature that has a strong whimsical element. Here lights sparkle like diamonds and being the city at night time, it also sparkles as if to reflect the 'soul' of the city and its numerous inhabitants. Light dances on the water and glows from the windows of the high rise waterside units and the music of this song wafts through the shadows as it illuminates the night with its magic, mystery and wonderful rhythm!
I most often listen to music on my walkman when sailing over Sydney Harbour and the music adds to the magic of this experience in so many different inexplicable ways, with this image as an expression of that in black and white......the black and white being there to highlight the illusion of diamonds and also as being an expression of a 'love of life'.

Stunning work, Leanne! And your write-up is really good - it reminds me that much inspiration can be found just by making little excursions right where we live!

Thanks so much Heather for your lovely comment, but hey....this little excursion is often enjoyed and paid for by many tourists who visit Sydney and especially enjoy the harbour as one of the most favourite attractions here! I am so fortunate to be able to enjoy it a lot more often and when ever I feel like without having to pay 1000s of $s for the privilege......it's all perspective in the end isn't it!? :-)
