Description
This artwork was originally created from a photo of a homemade card sent to me by a close friend. She had glued one apricot leaf on top of another on top of light yellow plain cardboard effectively creating a collage artwork as a result. The leaves came from a an apricot tree that she had originally planted from a seed, that had come from an apricot she had eaten. She wrote in her card "The leaves are from an apricot tree, grown from a stone I planted some years back. Last year we had 24 beautiful unsprayed apricots." She was obviously thrilled by this and as an 80+ year old, she was inspired to make this simple card out of the leaves and sent it to me knowing how much I appreciate creative things; as well in honour of this tree she had planted.
I've taken this photo of this card and added digital effects with adding colouring, texture and some bokeh effects (with permission from my friend). I felt the end result of this creative artwork needed some words of wisdom to give it added meaning, interest and balance. The saying came from a book I've just finished reading called "Proof of Heaven" by Eben Alexander, M.D. This saying is heading chapter 34 of this book, which is about the author's near death experiences and the wisdom and messages that came through these experiences for him.
Given the story around these leaves and what this image evoked in me, the continuation of life from a seed and then through friendship, a work of art, I felt something of a spiritual or philosophical tone was needed to bring further meaning to this image. The words for me create balance and that meaning - and at the same time became a vehicle for a powerful and potent message about change, human growth and the development of consciousness. The book these words came from was also about that.
This image would make a great wall hanging and poster, as well a special greeting card for special occasions and/or just to encourage others on thier life jouney's whatever that may be.
