This is a photograph I took of a beautiful pelican that was sitting on a wharf pylon next to the ferry I was in. I was doing a round trip on this ferry from Brooklyn to Little Wobby, which are small villages or townships along side of the Hawksbury River which is a large river system that runs through NSW national park-lands in Australia. I remember that at this time I was admiring the wonderful river, the bushlands, sky and hillsides and was totally oblivious of this bird that was sitting virtually next to me at the side of the ferry. I was naturally a bit shocked as I turned around to see this bird but had enough presence about me to grab my camera and snap this special shot.

Pelicans are one of my favorite birds and I have admired them, their great size and majesty especially as they fly, for many years having also having had some special experiences with them in the past. This area that the ferry had stopped by was called Little Wobby and from what I would see had about a dozen houses mostly built along the water front. There are no roads leading to the place so the only form of transport are boats, yachts and the like. Hawksbury River is waterway where many holiday makers come to stay in holiday houses, river boats-houses, caravans, tents and the like and there are some lovely spots where on can eat, drink, picnic, fish and enjoy this wonderful area as well as hire boats to explore the waterways. This long river runs into the ocean on the east coast of Australia so there are many ferries operating in this area and endless space for birds and humans to play. The pelicans love this area and one can see them in many parts of this area as they sail on the waters, fly in the skies and fish for their suppers.
