I painted this picture purely from my imagination during a heatwave in Sydney Australia, when I was having to stay indoors to survive the extreme temperatures that lasted for days. Painting this was a form of therapy for me and the subject was part of that therapy to keep me calm, relaxed and reasonably happy.
Trees are one of my favourite things so naturally this is the subject matter that I needed to draw from to stay positive and give me a sense of purpose at same the time. The tree was a jacaranda tree growing in front of a cottage which had lattice windows. This kind of a home fulfilled my homely fantasies, especially since the location of it, by the seaside, reminded me of a place I used to love to go to on holidays, when escaping the city.
The path by the side of the house led down to a small beach and the beach opened up onto a large bay area or rather the mouth of river that led to the ocean. All this memory is in this painting - and this imaginary place I'm painting of is in a sense real since this image is created out of a real memory. The imaginary area I've drawn of is south of Sydney in Bundeena, a small township on the edge of the Royal National Park down the south coast from Sydney. I've had wonderful holidays there staying in a cabin in a 5 star caravan park and the walks to the beach were always part of this happy experience - past the imaginary house along this sandy pathway to freedom and bliss!
The medium I used for this artwork was acrylic paint.
