Description
This is a photo I took at the Hawksbury River in Australia. The Hawksbury River is a large waterway that runs through the northern districts of outer Sydney area. It is a favourite for holiday makers and travellers who would like to see the beauty this country has to offer. Along side the Hawksbury river are some small villages and lots of holiday lets, houseboats and the like. There's a railway station that takes one right onto the river and it's a wonderful sight when you arrive with the river stretching out on both sides of the station. A small village called Brooklyn is at this station with a pub, a marina and plenty of places to buy fish and chips. The Marina has a wonderful outdoor eating area where I reckon, they serve the best fish and chips with salad! A small bottle shop close by allows one to buy drinks apart from what can be bought at the restaurant on the marina. I've often had lunch here when going on my very special outings to this place and I've also often caught the small ferry from this place to Dangar Island which can be seen from Brooklyn sitting in the middle of the river. But that's another story!
Anyway this image is a photo that I took at Brooklyn while I was walking around and site seeing. There are some small cliffy areas around Brooklyn with huge boulders, rocks and other land formations. The trees grow where ever they can and this is a photo of a root system of a tree that is growing on one of these cliff area, where there are huge boulders and rocks and almost impossible to imagine anything growing here. But here it is.......proof of the tenacity of life and some living things. This tree has no doubt grown here for a long, long time and God only knows how this root system got to do this! I was truly stunned and in awe when I first saw this and still am to a degree. There is so much more that I could write but this picture really speaks for itself. For me this image is an inspirational statement to say the least!

Sometimes it is miraculous where life takes hold and refuses to give in to the elements. Great example.

At first I see water flowing. But then I look deeper and it changes and then it changes again. Fascinating!
Leanne Seymour replied:
Thanks Shirley for your nice comment - and yes I can see that too. The stone this tree's roots are growing through are sandstone, so historically the large river this area is overlooking could well have submerged these rocks at one stage earlier in time. Also the rocks are weather worn so that in itself creates interesting patterns.
